The impact of the “Global Gag Rule” reinstated by US President Donald Trump in his first week in office will impact vulnerable women and girls in Africa, according to health rights campaigners in Kenya. The rule also known as the Mexico city policy prohibits recipients of US funding from offering abortion related services. Organisations that refuse to sign or adhere to the Global Gag rule also known as the Mexico City Policy, will lose funding of the U.S. Agency for International Development, USAID, including donated contraceptives and U.S. technical expertise. Nairobi based Center for Reproductive Rights says thousands of women in Kenya will be affected by the unmet need for comprehensive health care. Sarah Kimani reports.
